Pulses are a rich and most economical source of vegetable protein. India is the world's largest producer and consumer of wide variety of pulses. It is also the largest importer of pulses in the world. To meet the growing domestic consumption needs, India imports between 2-3 million tonnes of pulses every year, majority of which comes from Australia, Canada and Myanmar.
